Selective Helplessness
Ahra Cho
Helplessness means absence of taking any actions to make something better.
Helplessness is like a blinking cursor on a screen with aggressive typing sound. Despite of a lot of input, there is no output.
Soon, helplessness lead people to give up typing in the first place. This is why people tend not to be helpless. However, instead of avoiding helplessness, how about using it voluntarily as a form of communication? Are there any possibilities to solve problems caused by being helpless using a form of helplessness?

First, I was trying to find visual metaphors of being helpless. I coated a towel not to absorb water.

I crumpled a piece of paper, and unfold it. I drew on the wrinkles on the paper, and create a pattern.

I texted hi to unknown. I put myself into a vulnerable (helpless) situation where I could not control the future outcome.

I bought a lottery, and decided not to scratch it out. Interestingly, I found myself meticulously planning what to do with the money if I won the lottery.
