The shared reality is used to describe a state of inner connections of participants in a conversation. Sharing an inner connection contributes to what is significant in a conversation, and lead to the avoidance of binary assumptions and habitual responses. Therefore, it’s necessary for people to build up a multifaceted shared reality that is open to a plurality of realities with different people or groups but also to engage in these accept shared realities critically. Before accepting new shared reality, there remains the question as to how to expose people to new and different notions, perceptions, and ideas pertaining to reality. This is the major focus of this thesis research, also deals with reminding people of how they can critically accept shared realities.
My capstone project for my thesis is an interactive exhibition named Reality Constellation. There are a series of interaction and installation aiming to encourage people to build up shared realities in diversity with different people or groups, also consider for each reality, we need to absorb completely or partly.
Swimming Pool
I compare the external messages to a swimming pool and compares newspaper stripes to the water in a swimming pool. I am questioning if we need to fully immerse ourselves in the “water”, when we learn new perceptions from the outside.
Meditiation Hall
By evoking strong contrast of hall and box, I am questioning if we are open enough when we are reflecting. Do you keep accepting new perceptions to think broad and critically?
Interactive Objects in the Show
I made the overall space same as my bedroom as a way to represent my philosophy, inner states, personality, etc. Besides using clothes to create my messy space, I also brought my notebook, journals, and drawings for people to browse as a way of building up shared reality between my participants and myself.
