Uncertain Design

The concept of uncertainty is extracted from quantum mechanics, transformed into the openness of design to propose a speculative design thinking including collaboration with participants to achieve multi-perspective and self-evolutionary interactive process in order to encourage participants to think independently and critically.
Sacrifice & Evolution & Absurdism
The folio has three booklets that can be viewed independently which created an open interpretation based on the reading order of three titles. Whether to sacrifice the biological defense mechanism to follow the free will or to choose to survive by sacrificing of free will depends on the reader's understanding.
Big meets Small
These posters use dynamic graphics to show the relationship between the micro world and the macro world. Numerous atoms (single motion graphic) in the microscopic world constitute objects in the macroscopic world (repetitive patterns). The cube frame represents all observable objects, including humans. The corresponding visual language is based on the Ouroboros theory, emphasizing similarities between the biggest and smallest visuality.
Human Framework
The project is completed during the graduate study at Pratt which coordinated with classmates to complete 17 individual frameworks. Model-dependent realism is a view of scientific inquiry that focuses on the role of scientific models of phenomena. It claims reality should be interpreted based upon these models, and where several models overlap in describing a particular subject, multiple, equally valid, realities exist.
Uncertain poster
The poster with three dimensional structure allow viewers to watch it with different perspectives, at the same time achieves the dynamic of watching. By this method, the poster creates the uncertainty of viewing and the interpretation of openness. The Frame-like shape directly indicates Model-Dependent Realism.
What are you certain about?
The content of the book is based on fifty questionnaires, about participants answering a question. By collecting and organizing these responses, the content of the book was developed in a way that collaborates with the participants. After that, I will question these answers and convey the "certainty“ of the different observation perspective. No matter it's uncertain or not, it's a journey of discovering.
Un+certain Design
This book describes the similarities between physics and design through visual language. From the development of general relativity to the quantum mechanics, a speculative design thinking is proposed to illustrate the possibility of uncertain design.
