Seeing Human
Wanyue Wang
Anthropomorphism is a universal tendency deeply rooted in the process of human development. As a powerful communication impulse, anthropomorphism in today’s society is being exploited much more intentionally than in the past, especially in design areas. Although the exploitation is continually intensifying, the complex insights and impacts of using anthropomorphism are easily ignored. By seeing as well as communicating with non-human agents through anthropomorphic lenses, designers are actively shaping the way people perceive both non-humans and humans. However, the inappropriate utilization of anthropomorphism may lead to some potential risks, and even become an intangible weapon.
