The popularization of individualism by the online media sharing platform Instagram has created a subculture based on a “psychedelic illusion” of contemporary life, which is rendered by the different tastes of images. Each user creates this illusion because they are the tastemakers. People rely on images to communicate with people around the world. So the image itself becomes the tool, manipulates the narrative, and evoke emotions in an effort to bring back the empathy between people. Also, the fragmented information and filtered images on social media seduce users into a utopian simulacrum of reality — we are exposed on it and also learn from it in a nonlinear, fragmented way.
FRAGMENTS is the capstone project of my MFA thesis, which divided into five parts, combined with five personal poems and different tastes of image. For each part, the poem also as the caption so that this book can be seen as a physical version of a stranger’s social media account but in a nonlinear way.
This is the first part of my capstone book, the poem using in this part is: I am an egg, weird egg, things inside of me you cannot see, unless you crack me, don’t hurt me, please hurt me.
This is the second part of my capstone book, the poem using in this part is: Your bare hands, create some drinks, boiling in my veins, taste super sweet.
This is the third part of my capstone book, the poem using in this part is: I’m locked in the cage, stuck in my fucking ways, leave some blank space, I will scream on the page.
This is the fourth part of my capstone book, the poem using in this part is: Something ephemeral, nothing long-lasting, nobody cares what I’m saying, you see what I’m doing?
This is the fifth part of my capstone book, the poem using in this part is: I never say no, I embrace you all, I blend them in, I poop them all.
