The connected self: Ritual practices in cyberspace
Yurou Xia
This thesis explores the digital ritual, which refers to performing rituals virtually in cyberspace. Although the ritual has organized discipline for people and helped people to achieve their goals better, the ritual is reduced by the limitation of time and space as time flows. Online activities give people more choices and also minimize the problem of the limitation of time and space. Therefore, creating a new form of digital ritual could help people to perform their personal rituals or group rituals better. This thesis aims to explore how rituals get practiced in digital space.
