The blurred boundary of reality and avatars in the virtual world
Changlin Zhou
Network culture has always been eroding the living space of real culture. The boundary between the virtual and reality is constantly blurred. And the pandemic speeds up the process. In the virtual world, people can break the limitations of reality, explore more possibilities, and try different experiences and roles in this space. Elements that define ourselves and others in the real world, are abandoned in the virtual world. By considering the relationship between the virtual world and reality, people can be clearer about how virtual space influences our lives, and what role the design can be in the future.
A Day
One-minute animation records my real state of self-isolation. How I spend my day with my phone.
The visiting cat Sock’s 100-day observation diary
To express and play with the idea of blurred boundaries between virtual and reality. I was trying to documentary something in a very "digital way." I chose to observe the cat of my roommate, an adorable black and white cat named Socks.
The diary rules
Record Socks' postures every day when I first see him.
Document them through 3 pictures in a square with 16 into 16 grids.
Arrange those pictures in chronological order.
The visiting cat brand
With the continuous increased information about the cat, it can create a complete image in people's minds and make the cat break the boundary of reality and become part of the virtual space. It can be built like a brand and create more stuff around this cat.
3D cat
To bring the pixel cat back to reality. Audiences can use their phone to scan the cat's image, and the cat's model can flow in their phone. And to express the idea of virtual space limitations, only when viewers observe from the right angle they see the cat.
To eat a piece of salmon.
It is an interactive game-like online workshop. I want to play with the idea of "eat" in this project. Confuses the concept of "eat" in the real world, and redesign as an online experience.
