Personal Space
Jiadong Chen
Physiologically, the person is an individual with a perceived boundary. Personal space can be defined as the area individual humans actively maintain around themselves into which others cannot intrude without arousing discomfort. Personal space might be as small and concrete as an exclusive drawer in my childhood home or as large and abstract as the virtual space of power in the workplace. The importance of personal space is that it is born out of the need for self-consciousness to exist and be expressed. So personal space, for each of us psychologically, has a healing effect.

Black represents personal space, blue is the main character, grey represents strangers. In the first scenario, the main character goes out from his own place to the public place, it shows how the main character’s personal space changes.

Comparing the first scenario, the second scenario shows the main character going to a relatively crowded place, it may be at a subway station. Under this kind of environment, people’s personal space becomes smaller or nonexistent.

Project 1 uses GIFs to visualize the thesis concept. It shows how the blue circle's ( main character)personal space changes as he moves from an all-personal space to a public space.

Similar to project 1, project 2 uses GIFs to visualize the thesis concept. Here the differences between intimate relationships and strangers in physical space is explored.

Using GIF to show the project 2.

In the company's public area. Black circle: seat that be occupied.White circle: empty seats. They are game cards, they supply four different games, and colleagues can use these games to build their social relationship, and have more interactions with others. To let them don’t always stay in their own personal space.

Similar to project 1, project 2 uses GIFs to visualize the thesis concept. Here the differences between intimate relationships and strangers in physical space is explored.
