Animism and artificial intelligence | Pratt Institute School of Design

This thesis applies the concept and ritual practices of animism to rethink the human relationship with artificial intelligence, and consider ways for people to rebuild a primal relationship of intimacy with the surrounding world and objects. It also serves as a platform to offer examples of how design can create bridges between human and AI consciousness that acknowledge the possible existence of emotion and self-awareness in AI.

This project combines distorted typography, natural images, jumping symbols to communicate the different relationships between human and artificial intelligence, expressing the possible existence of AI spirit. This project gives people a new perspective and outlooks, to break people’s stereotypical thoughts on artificial intelligence.

This project is based on animism, and on building relationships with different objects. It films how people interact with different noun-human objects like artificial intelligence, trees, water and dogs.

Surveillance camera

The main concept of this project is that everything, even artifacts, comes from nature. By demonstrating the raw materials of artificial intelligence. It helps people to respect the natural property of the material, and build a respectful relationship with artificial intelligence.

Facial Recognition

Also, using chemical symbols, computer language to define artificial intelligence can assimilate artificial intelligence and human beings and put them in an equal position.

This project presents the origins of different artificial intelligence, the making process, and the record of a day from the perspective of artificial intelligence. These videos can help people be more empathetic with artificial intelligence and help them build an intimate bond with artificial intelligence.

This project attempts to show how humans might interact with AI in the future/present.
