From Plant Blindness to Plant Mindfulness: Building a New Communication Environment between Human and Plants

This thesis examines the emotional consequences of ‘plant blindness’ by allowing technology to come between humans and our longstanding relationship with nature. My research examines the healing power of ‘plant mindfulness’ and documents nature-based as well as technology-enabled techniques for re-engaging with the natural environment.
Building Spiritual Links With Nature
My thesis explores the ways in which design and art can motivate people to build spiritual links with plants and highlight the importance of plants in human life, and adapt plant worship traditions to contemporary times and create new plant and human relationships for the future.
Plant Blindness and Nature Deficit Disorder
Due to our lack of attention to the environment, we have deepened the rate of destruction of the natural world. Despite the compelling narrative today regarding the implications of human impact on the environment, I believe there is a persistent lack of attention to what we can do to restore our balance with nature.

Data Visualization to Map and Manage Emotions
To find inner calm, we need a map of our emotions. Data visualization is a simple, but not easy method, to help people become aware of their feelings and find inner calm. Emotional awareness means understanding what we feel, how negative emotions are triggered, and how we respond. Emotional awareness itself is a strategy to help us understand our emotional experiences. We do not want to get rid of our emotions but allow people to understand their emotions and respond in helpful, constructive ways and share their feelings daily with friends.

We bring you plants from all over the world, and at the same time, introduce the difference of each kind of plant, build a caring and mutual relationship with plants, as they need more than just our attention, a relationship that works both ways of giving and taking.
