The Third Culture
Yichen Ren
The Third Culture reflects the balance between immigrant culture and art itself. Furthermore, it contemplates how immigrants affect culture in the era of globalization. This research takes Third Culture as the theme to explore the era of globalized culture, specifically focusing on cultures that have become localized, or where people's interests or tastes have become highly individualized. In recent years, controversy over cultural appropriation has been increasing. This involves the classification of "two cultures", one being the local culture, and the other is the culture reflected in art and design. A Third Culture that can bridge the gap has emerged from these two extremes. Finally, I argue that the Third Culture is a true portrayal of artistic development.

Poster
I use traces as the background of the poster and add new patterns to express the new cultural principles in the third space.

Poster
The ink will produce bubbles during use. I use the form of bubbles to express that the third culture is produced under conflict.
Installation art
When people walk into this space, they need to touch the paper with their hands to create a space for people to pass through. These papers are coated with temperature-sensitive ink. When people touch the paper, they will leave traces on them.
Production process
The temperature-sensitive ink will change its color when it is exposed to human body temperature, and will change to its original color when the temperature drops
Game Design
This is a game I designed for the paper installation. The prototype of the game is two sheets of paper. Through the dialogue of the two sheets, the user can choose different patterns and combine the different patterns together to produce a picture.
Game Design
People use the patterns that represent different cultures given by the game and recombine these patterns to form a new pattern, which breaks the cultural boundary and blurs the original cultural boundary of the pattern. To form a new picture only from an artistic point of view.

User-Generated Art
collected the works produced by different users playing this game.
