Apparition of Memory

Memories are a historical narrative of past experiences that intertwine into the present, allowing us to relive specific moments. However, not all recollections are accurate. They are easily influenced and manipulated by new environments, emotions, and other people. The fragility of remembering can quickly alter the meaning of an experience, reshaping how we communicate with our past and project ourselves into the future.
My design experimentations examine various mediums that aim to express, engage, and trigger a heartfelt sensorial response, seeking to understand how memories take on new meanings and perspectives and define the communication between remembering and design.
Personal Memory Objects
My initial explorations were very personal, all revolving around the idea of materializing memories and how they can transform through time. I wanted to understand how objects speak to us about the past, how they become essential pieces of our present, and how they help us express ourselves in the future. Listening to Memory Objects is a collection of artifacts that depicts my story through powerful emotions and experiences.
Coded Visual Language
I analyzed the sentiment of each object through a coded visual language by describing the artifact and abstracting its meaning. Creating a language based on symbols allowed me to visualize my story very subjectively and introduce the idea of memory alteration.
Color Palette Associated with Symbols
I used the symbols to experiment and translate the coed language into a complete visual and auditory experience using color and solfa syllables, where I transformed my object’s memories and emotions into a sensory technology that allows me to re-experience the past from an entirely different perspective.
