Amusing myself to death
Jiayue Wu
This thesis looks at the influence of overconsumption of information, media, and culture on people's life. By understanding how a culture of consumption has shaped our desire for fulfillment and joy, I explore more on how overconsumption of information represents this cycle of overjoy through overconsumption. I will use critical design to investigate and comment on the role social media plays in the lives of Generation Z and millennials and how we are amused to death.

What’s the texture of social media to you?
This installation is about the overconsumption of social media. By asking Generation-Z of “What’s the texture of social media to you?” I materialize the feelings of young people towards social media by using wax, plastic, paper, reflective board, clay etc.

Reconstruction of digital and physical space
Combining the symbolized waste material with the video of people’s life, my project reveals people’s unspoken feelings related to the waste material and the way they see the platform while still casting it as a personal brand.

Everywhere & Nowhere
To visualize a mobile-appliance addicted person’s everyday life in order to create the three typical illusions that social media has given to us: We’ll have attention everywhere. We’ll always be heard. We’ll never have to be alone.
