Measurements of Emptiness
Yuhan Liao
The concept of emptiness is a provoking medium that can shift attention between the audience and the designer. As a multilayer concept that encourages interaction and provokes creativity, it provides a place to focus and creates a blank space where the audience can project their own thoughts in a more subjective way. The state of emptiness is a signifier to begin something new, which is extremely hard to do in the current society. I aim to push this process and tell people that there are many possibilities to be experienced before achieving a solution therefore exploring the emptiness without the pressure of needing to create anything is the most significant.

We may ask: Is destiny meaningful without knowing there’s the possibility of something more to be found? Human nature is to wander, to be curious, and to seek answers. This is a methodology of how human evolves, although the beginning and ending is important, it is what is in between that is the most important and meaningful.

Emptiness is a soul characteristic that every object has. Emptiness can exist within every item

I aim to create a visual system that simulates the process of wandering and relaxing, turning thoughts into true actions, defragmenting things to their original meaningless state, and then rebuilding the fragments to what the audience truly wants.

To discard the original meaning for items and then create something new can be a distracting process, however, without destroying original concepts, there will not be true emptiness.

In this way an empty item is inspiring, it not only reduces what is nor necessary and misleading, it is a catalyst for new happenings for a future that has great potential.

People’s minds are all occupied and controlled by everything that is happening. We need a space, a moment where we can stop and find what we truly want to express, to apply meaning and romance to our current existence.
