A Stranger’s Frame
Sizhe Yao
We increasingly rely on digital platforms as our primary mode of connection and communication. Digital environments create unique boundaries. These boundaries limit the depth of our interactions, as digital communication often lacks the nuances of face-to-face engagement. Digital innovations shape the world around us; they change our behaviors, not only in digital spaces but in physical spaces too. Less and less, we ask strangers for directions on the street, we keep our airpods on in the subway, and no longer do we leave our newspapers for others to read. I use an analog camera as a tool for connection and communication.

“How much does the photo cost?”

“They are free”

“Nah you must be kidding, let's take more then, let me try to pose this.”

“You can try shooting too”

“I do not know if I have the eye you do”

“It is not about the eyes, It’s about the heart. I think everyone has a heart”
