The punctuation mark, the em dash — visually rests as a line in language. Where its physical form opens discourse for
contemplating visual symbolism for silence, its functional usage in Literature offers useful insights for Design
strategies.
Of relevance culturally, however, is the adoption of the symbol by AI softwares in an attempt to emulate the humanness
of written language. Growing discussions about the authenticity of original writings plague social media conversations
as the larger question emerges — how does appropriation of communication methods change the future of interpersonal
communication in general and co-creation within Design?
