Power Play: On Sapphic Liberation explores the importance of art making as a form of resistance to the dominant culture and as a method of liberation. The project specifically investigates the sapphic way of being – a disposition rooted in softness and the defiance of patriarchal standards. This thesis reclaims ownership of the femme body and disrupts expectations and the fetishization of sapphic people. The work pushes back against increasingly conservative political agendas and reaches for vulnerability as an offering of softness in a time of global turmoil.

Sappho’s Groove is a typeface created using lost fragments of Sappho’s ancient writing intended to display contemporary sapphic language. It is an active refusal of being unheard and a contemporary approach to the preservation of sapphic history through design.

Seductive Provocation draws on imagery and text from print magazines, layered with annotated excerpts from Susan Sontag and John Berger on photography and perception. The work engages themes of femme identity within mainstream media and the fashion industry. Seductive Provocation exists as a place of awareness rooted in questioning and celebration.
