Exploring Opportunities to Utilize Waste Fabric for Structural Packaging
Chao-Yi Wang
Fast fashion generates tremendous amounts of textile waste. Recycling this fabric waste is a huge challenge. This capstone proposes repurposing the fabric scrap to act as rigid packaging materials which can then transform into a second use object. This project focused on incorporating easily removable non-toxic stiffening agents to the fabric to allow the fabric to serve as rigid packaging. The “packages” also incorporated secondary mechanical structures and systems to aid in their transformation from package to product.
