Beyond Nature
Sally Jeong-Won Hwang
This capstone began with research to identify new packaging solutions to replace plastic films, such as bubble wrap. During this process, a focused inquiry evolved around biomimicry. I learned that nature is resilient and adapts its forms based on responses to the natural elements. New models of paperboard packaging were developed that served as an alternative solution for plastic protection. These structural forms were inspired by structures found in plants that are reformable and/or flexible structures that are made out of paperboard and therefore recyclable.
