Capstone Documentation
This video documents my capstone research process and presents my final solution to my capstone thesis, a unique modular package design that is both luxury and sustainable.

Logo
Fay (菲/妃 in Chinese) meaning flower and royal woman at the same time. Having flower cakes can improve skin condition and maintain beauty.I create a dynamic logotype that switches color according to each flavor. It contains design elements such as sumi-e strokes and flower petals.

Logo Sketch
I explore various logo styles including chinese calligraphy, combination between english and chinese and ancient chinese symbols.

Color Theory
I extract my colors from different flower jams.

Material Choice
I carefully researched the materials that I will use on my package so that the package will be fully sustainable. As a substitute for foil finishes, in which shiny elements attract the visual, I find that touch and sense play essential roles in making a package attractive and luxurious. Bagasse Paper will make my primary package with natural flower scent depending on the flavors. It gives a heavy texture to allow my surface features to pop up more and allow the customer to smell what is inside. In addition, Seaweed Film Lamination to protect oxidation and moisture. I use Water-Soluble Adhesives during the lamination process so that the whole package can be biodegradable.

Debossing/Gradient Effect
The flower patterns have debossing as their surface finishes because different elevations can improve the experience of touching the package. The gradients mimic the Sumi-e stroke effect.
Stack Packaging
When single packages stack on the shelf at different angles, a part of the flower shows.
Combination Packaging
When the five packages come together, they form a shape of the flower that hints at the brand.

Secondary Packaging
My secondary package is made of transparent wood. The transparent wood has 90% transparency. These materials are significantly more biodegradable than glass and plastics. I want my package to be transparent so that the customer can observe how my packages come together from outside of the package. I feel this is the most fundamental design element of this modular design.
