Lillian (Tianyu) Chu
My Capstone Project aims to explore the relationship between historical culture and contemporary design. Simple and intuitive visual symbolism is a valuable tool to help modern society communicate information more effectively. Packaging design can play a role in awakening and retaining a historical culture.

Introduction and Cultural Background Information

The Full Set of the Project

By integrating all research information and culture into my capstone project, I will illustrate symbolism through four main aspects: the bottle, “4 and 6” culture, the symbolism of Chinese inscription, and Chinese liquor culture during solar terms and festivals.

Design Details
Among the many Chinese traditional poetries about liquor, there is a most representative one from Li Bai, known as the most famous Poet in Chinese history. And that is the poetry I chose to put on the inside of the wooden tablets, so the customer can keep it after finishing. The poetry: “兰陵美酒郁金香,玉碗盛来琥珀光” [Lanling sweet intoxicating, emitting a charming aroma of herbs and flowers, filled with jade bowls bright and beautiful as amber].
