Flow & Cycle——Prehistoric Exhibitions and Storytelling
Zhaoyi Zhang
This is an exhibition focusing on the sustainable living conditions of primitive civilization (Yangshao culture).

The exhibition will show how humans in primitive civilizations lived sustainably in the form of "circulation". The audience can pass through the narrow passage and observe the details of primitive culture up close through the windows on the wall. They can visit the entire exhibition by collecting seals and experience primitive civilization sacrifices to feel respect for nature.

Exhibition Structure
There are four exhibition parts, each one telling a small part of stories. After getting the ticket, the first one shows how people made pottery. Then about enjoyed food and used bones. And the final one is about hunting and farming. In between these areas, visitors pass through a small circle table. After each section, visitors get a stamp in this space. Each stamp is a different color, and together, they form a full pattern of the exhibition.

LOGO
The logo of the exhibition is inspired by the layout of the space. I used flowing lines that feel like water or fish tails, since the Yangshao people lived by rivers and had fish and bird totems.

Primitive civilizations lived by the small rivers formed by the snow mountains. They obtained everything they needed to survive from the water. They held worship here, obtained clay to make vessels. And they also design patterns on pottery based on what they saw and heard in the water.

People got fire from lightning and held ceremonies by leaders. They used fire to make food, using vessels to hold foods. And, they preserve the bones of the food to recycle and reuse.

Primitive humans respected bones, thinking animal and human bones alike, using them to make weapons and tools, and using them to demonstrate their power.

After acquiring bone tools, people would grow plants and reduce their collection of plants from nature. They would worship before each hunt, and would only eat male and old animals to keep the group sustainable.
