This Capstone project investigates the design of an interactive pop-up book as a framework for sign-based learning. By creating scenes of the urban environment combined with intuitive safety signage, children learn to navigate their social environment safely. Drawing on Lance Wyman’s Mexico City Metro iconography, this project develops a universal visual communication system accessible to children aged 4-8, across different cultures. Furthermore, the design applies Eric Carle’s use of bold colors and symbols, tailored for the preoperational stage of cognitive development. The final pop-up book builds environmental familiarity and safety habits by applying user-centered graphic systems to children's interactive literature.

Pip's City Adventure
A heavy rain fell last night, the color of the city’s signs were washed away by the rain. Pip carrying his color and text maps, begin his journey to save the city. Along the way, he stops a driver who has nearly crashed, and later rescues a blind old man lost in the subway station. For Pip, is this just an adventure to fix the signs, or a heartwarming journey to help others discover the meaning of everyday symbols around them?
